Here's what happenened this week on Making the Band...
Episode 101 (Series Premiere) :
The competition is on as Trans-Continental's
Lou Pearlman scours the nation for fresh talent for his
latest boy band creation. 1000 contenders
will be narrowed down to 25 and sent to Trans-Continental's
Orlando headquarters to train and compete
for eight coveted spots.
25 aspiring pop stars arrive in "O-Town"
to begin intensive voice and dance training. Although there is
a strong feeling of competition among
the guys, there is also an unquestionable bond of friendship and camaraderie
that continues to grow as the competition day grows closer.
Competition day brings a range of emotions
including confidence, anxiety, excitement and terror. The
guys receive cheers of encouragement as
they perform a song and dance routine in front of a panel
of judges and their fellow contenders.
Episode 102:
Lou performs the difficult task of announcing
the names of the eight finalists. Tears of happiness and disappointment
are shared among the winners and losers. However, every person in the room
is
grateful for the extraordinary experience
and looks forward to lifelong friendships with one another.
The eight finalists say goodbye to their
friends, families, and girlfriends and are off to Orlando for
more voice and dance training in the studio.
The reality of their fortune begins to set in as the guys
are picked up in a stretch limo by Lou
and taken to their spacious Orlando home that they will share
with each other during the training period.
The guys quickly learn that they are easily
replaceable as they receive a stern lecture from their
voice coach after showing up two hours
late for their first studio session.
Episode 103:
Along with four hours a day of voice training
and three hours of dance lessons comes one of the
many perks enjoyed by boy band stars......girls.
The guys with girlfriends are challenged with how
to deal with their new female fans.
Ikaika becomes increasingly more homesick
for Hawaii and his girlfriend as he distances himself
from the other seven guys, who don't seem
to be having any trouble adapting to their new social lives.
Marc, the Otown road manager, finds Ikaika
sitting alone in the parking lot after rehearsal. He tries to
help Ikaika move his focus away from his
loneliness
towards the positive aspects of this experience,
such as the opportunity to grow and learn
new things.
Episode 104:
Erik and Jacob begin to form a bond apart from the other guys over their mutual love for songwriting.
Erik, Ashley, and Jacob refocus their attention
on the band after getting in trouble with Marc and Lou
for staying out past their curfew with
the girls.
Girls known as the "O-Town Groupies" wear
out their welcome with the guys after late night visits that
interfere with sleep schedules and concentration.
In the meantime, Lou meets with each guy individually
to go over his progress.
Episode 105:
Paul tells Lou that his career takes priority
over his relationship with his girlfriend, while Ikaika
confides to his mother that if forced
to choose, he would pick Malia over the band.
Ikaika and Paul prepare for the visit of
their girlfriends. While Ikaika counts the minutes to Melia's
arrival, Paul is faced with the dilemma
of how to handle his growing relationship with Herizon girl
Heather, and the arrival of his girlfriend
Carrah.
Ikaika focuses 100% of his attention on
spending time with Malia, which puts distance between
him and the group.
Episode 106:
Erik distances himself from Herizon girl
Jenny, while Ashley and Mike compete for attention from
their new friend Cori.
Ashley enjoys a visit from his girlfriend
Shelli, who is worried that the band will change Ashley and
their relationship.
After an argument with Erik, Jenny calls
him a racial name behind his back. Jacob confronts Jenny
and tells her to either apologize to Erik,
or leave the house and don't come back.
Episode 107:
The guys prepare to go home for a short
break before returning to Orlando to find out who the final
five will be. They each take home a 40-page
record contract that must be reviewed and signed
before returning.
Ikaika returns to Hawaii with an internal
struggle between his commitment to making the band and
his girlfriend Malia. His father and brothers
advise Ikaika to take advantage of this opportunity for the
family's sake and to represent Hawaii,
even though it may be difficult for him.
Ashley returns home, where his dad informs
him that he not only doesn't support Ashley's choices,
but that he does not want to hear or see
anything to do with the band if Ashley makes the final five.
Episode 108:
The guys return from vacation to face confusion
and uncertainty over the ten-year contract that
they're required to sign.
Tension builds as the contract negotiations
delay the final cut. Meanwhile, Ikaika returns to Hawaii
over his dissatisfaction with the contract.
Paul's sudden decision to drop out before the final cut comes as a major surprise to the other guys.
Episode 109:
Ikaika remains in Hawaii over the contract
dispute, while the remaining six guys receive criticism
from their coaches over their lack of
focus and concentration.
Lou Pearlman throws a New Year's Eve bash
and the boys are sent home early for behaving too
rowdily while in the public eye.
After getting a severe scolding from Jay,
TransCon's PR Manager, the boys realize that they have
to come together as a group and act as
a unit. Meanwhile, Ikaika's decision to remain in Hawaii
increases tension in Orlando.
Episode 110:
The boys enter the studio to begin recording their first single, "All For Love", in Ikaika's absence.
Ikaika returns to Orlando to face strong
accusations and emotions from the other boys over his
choice to remain in Hawaii.
Ikaika and Jacob threaten to physically fight over the situation in front of Lou and the rest of the group.
Episode 111:
Jacob makes peace with himself over the
fact that God will decide the future of his career as well
as the band.
Excitement and nervousness fills the air the as the day of the final cut arrives.
Lou performs the emotional and difficult
task of announcing the final five….Ashley, Erik, Ikaika,
Jacob, and Trevor.
Episode 112:
Bryan and Mike face the difficult task of saying goodbye to O-Town.
After being given an ultimatum by his girlfriend
Shellie, Ashley makes the difficult decision of putting
space in their relationship, allowing
him to focus on his career.
Ikaika shows a newfound dedication to the
band and decides to lead the other guys in a vigorous
workout program in preparation for their
first performance.
Episode113:
The band has only seven days to prepare
for its first performance, which includes visiting a stylist
to help with a new image.
After hearing news that the group might
not get to go home for a visit, Ikaika questions his desire
to stay in the band.
After spending the day with Lou on his
boat, the guys arrive late to dance rehearsal and face a
stern lecture from their dance instructors.
Episode 114:
Jacob gets frustrated because it is less
than 48 hours before O-Town's first live performance and
they are not 100 percent ready.
The guys enjoy their first experience performing live in front of screaming fans at Southwest Middle School.
Despite making numerous mistakes, the guys
feel very good about their first performance after they
watch it on video later in the day.
Episode 115:
The pressure keeps growing as the guys
deliver a poor practice performance in front of high ranking
MTV folks the day before their important
show for the record company execs.
After receiving yet another lecture from
the instructors, the band confronts Jacob on his decision to
leave the room rather than discuss things
as a group.
Conversations with Jacob lead into the
band's first real fight with one another, which allows them to get
all their emotions and opinions out in
the open before their next show.
Episode 116:
The guys get a pep talk before their first
real performance in front of record executives at
The House of Blues.
O-Town delivers a strong first performance, which creates interest from the record executives and may ultimately lead to a record deal.
After a short break to visit their families,
the guys meet in Los Angeles for an important photo shoot,
only to find out that Ikaika did not return
from Hawaii.
Episode 117:
Otown arrives in Los Angeles for a press
tour, which will involve phone and radio interviews along
with a photo shoot of the eight semi-finalists.
Ikaika is still having difficulty adapting to this environment and realizes that he must make a decision soon.
After not showing up for an important photo
shoot, Ikaika makes an announcement to his stunned
fellow band members that he is quitting
the band.
Episode 118:
Even after the guys beg Ikaika to stay
in Los Angeles for one more day in order to finish the important
photo shoot, Ikaika follows the orders
of his older brother to return to Hawaii immediately.
The remaining four O-Town members try to
record their single "Baby I Would" with only four members
to prove to Lou that they don't need a
fifth member in the band
After realizing that they do need a fifth
member, the guys inform Lou that they would like semi-finalist
Dan Miller to join the band.
Episode 119:
Dan Miller arrives in Orlando and witnesses
a scolding from vocal coach Mark on O-Town’s lack
of commitment to practicing.
After Mark threatens to quit, Lou has a
serious sit-down with the guys and places them on restriction
from going out at night until they leave
for Germany the following week.
After two days of continuous rehearsals, Lou tells Dan that he has made it into the band.
Episode 120:
As O-Town prepares to leave for Germany
to record, Erik gets in trouble with Lou and his
fellow band members for not taking care
of himself while he is sick.
After arriving in Germany, Erik feels disconnected
to the group when he has to spend time at
the doctor's office while his fellow bandmembers
begin to record without him.
After recording two strong new songs in
two days, Jacob gets frustrated when he learns that
the record company may not be supportive
of these songs that they wrote themselves that
aren't part of the usual formula.
Episode 121:
The band heads out on its first vacation
together to Cancun accompanied by Ashley and
Dan's girlfriends.
Ashley's girlfriend Shelli tearfully explains
to him that she is holding him responsible for her
broken dreams of getting married and a
having a family together.
Ashley tells Shelli that he wants them
to spend time away from each other for awhile so that he
can focus on his career while she goes
on with her life.
Episode 122 (Season Finale):
The band gets the opportunity to travel
to New York to perform in front of record company
executives and hopefully, land a record
contract.
O-Town heads for Georgia where Dan will
participate in his first band performance in front of a
crowd of 2000 fans.
Three months later, O-Town arrives in New
York to sign a record contract with Clive Davis.
This represents the beginning of a promising
career.
